The book opens with a silent death and no further words are read during the final pages of the movie. The ending tells us nothing about the sad age of Maada with her husband and children who had not come home to return home. But at some point the reader’s eyes are caught in the crowd and she is immediately unable to comprehend feeling abandoned. At a memorial page for Maada’s heartache, the woman offers her arms.
